Energy Rating System

The Window Energy Rating system (pictured above) follows a similar pattern to appliance energy labels, with windows being rated between A+ (the best) and G (the worst). Building regulations require all new windows to be at least Crated. Each of the big-name companies claim different levels of energy efficiency, some as much as A++.

U Values explained

Thermal performance is judged by the heat loss through the glass and window frame as a combined product. U-factor values range from 0.25 to 1.25 and are measured in Btu/h·ft²·°F. The lower the U-factor, the better the window insulates. For example, a U-Value of 1.2 W/m2.K, means the amount of energy (1.2W) that will pass through 1m2 area of glass and window frame.
